A Shakespearean comedy about four Athenian lovers, a king and queen of the fairies, and a group of amateur actors, all whose lives become entangled in a magical forest. The plot involves a love-potion-induced mix-up where two men fall for the wrong woman, a fairy king and queen quarreling, and a group of "mechanicals" rehearsing a play, which results in chaos and confusion. Eventually, the fairy magic is reversed, and the lovers, both human and fairy, are united and married.
